Site development schedule Summary This page contains a list of the ongoing work on the site and plans for future releases. Please check this page before submitting any questions or details of bugs - it may be that the web developers already know of the problem. Development Work 23/10/07 - added the rating tool which can be found here » 22/09/06 - Entered the new grades. This needs to be programmed rather than just text. Programming will mean that I can automatically list by highest current rank. Also more newsletters and events added. Will work shortly on a true calendar object - you’ll see the reason shortly. 18/05/06 - The search engine has been upgraded! The previous engine worked by entering specific free text. For example entering "Hywel Griffiths" would search for the exact match. If an article only mentioned "Hywel had success . . . . but the young Mr Griffiths. . . " then the search engine would not find the relevant page i.e. "Hywel Griffiths" is not the same as "Hywel had". What do the changes mean? This means you can now search for Hywel Griffiths and each search term is taken individually. As an example to search for Hywel in local press articles you can now enter "Hywel local press" and all articles where "Hywel" appears with the word "local" and the word "press" will appear. Try it! However, just like search engines such as google, use wisely! For example if I want to search the image library for Hywel then searching with the word "images" and the word "Hywel" will bring back incorrect results. However, searching on "Hywel Image" will - note the singular image rather than the plural . [tip this advice also applies to search engines - refrain from plurals if you want the most accurate results]. 17/05/06 - The local press section has been brought under the content management system and that data has been added for Feb, March and April (missing some articles?). This means that you can now search on those articles. For more details - click the home link above and then choose the local press sub-section on the left. 09/05/06 - A new section has been added under the training, the link is resources. We need more contributions! Thanks to Hywel for the bespoke article which appears there. 07/05/06 - A quiet period as far as the web site is concerned, apologies as we have been busy. Placed a new link on the home section which gives access to pdf documents of local news items. Thanks to Martyn for supplying those. 11/07/05 - The next page system has been implemented (for example look at the image libraries which hold images from 2005 and 2004. Also implemented the click to select on the mate in one puzzles. This means that other training links are now in a position to be built - for example new links will be created shortly to give tactical training. If anybody would like to contribute then Wayne Prescott will give details about the formats required. Longer term plans include ability to parse games which will then facilitate game reviews and also historical archives. Note - in testing the new implementation just a few of the puzzles had erroneous entries in the database, these are now all corrected. 07/07/2005 - Most areas have now been populated (image library for 2004 outstanding) so the site is looking less sparse. Over the coming days / weeks looking at implementing a new programmed system to allow the puzzles in the training manual (and others) to be entered into the database in the format display board + question: click will show the solution. Also looking at the ’next page’ system: Because we have a huge amount of content that needs to be entered into the site clicking on one of the left hand menu items needs to have the ability to refer to one or more articles. The database structure currently allows this biut the interface needs to be upgraded to permit this. For example the home page will have a next link to lead into the club history which will also need to be broken into several pages. Finally, soon we will need to implemenent the archive pages system. Again, the data model already has this in place but the current interface does not use it. 19/06/2005 - We are currently populating the content for each section of the site. Call For Assistance If anybody has time to review and proof the site copy then please contact Wayne Prescott on 01639 852560 or. Also, the list of links on the site is fairly sparse at the moment. Any recommendations with a brief summary would be appreciated - please send the recommendation as a word document. |
